Puma Capital Group
Investing in our people

At Puma our approach to development and pathways has always been holistic. We believe that focusing on individual growth as people is key to success; we invest heavily in each member of our team as individuals rather than as a collective. We aim to work on everyone's personalised development instead of a one-size-fits-all method.

Careers at Puma

At Puma our approach to development and pathways has always been holistic. We believe that focusing on individual growth as people is key to success; we invest heavily in each member of our team as individuals rather than as a collective. We aim to work on everyone's personalised development instead of a one-size-fits-all method.

Technical qualifications

Offering technical training and growth opportunities is a given for our staff. We are supportive of both academic and professional qualifications, as well as broader training courses. This can be anything from staff working towards their CFA exams, accountancy qualifications, or more specialised exams relating to their chosen career.

Foundational skills and wider learning

Our investment in our value of ‘Aspiration’ is at the heart of our wider development programmes, as well. We believe strongly in a growth mindset, and staff from all levels and departments are invited to our training sessions on foundational (soft) skills run by our external partners on a regular basis. We also offer tailor-made workshops on relevant industry and career-related topics, to enhance personal and professional effectiveness.

We also believe that development shouldn’t stop at role specific training; we are proud to invite external speakers in to speak to us on a wide range of issues, from Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to other relevant topics so that we all focus on growing into better citizens outside not just the workplace. We also regularly update the books in our company library so people can read up on any of the topics and issues we learn about. We are unafraid of tackling and discussing difficult issues such as race, sexuality, as well as topics like menopause and mental health.

Personal development

We also understand that personal growth can be just as valuable outside of the workplace, and each of our team is given an annual a personal development grant to spend on learning a new skill or hobby – anything from cooking classes to tennis lessons or learning to fly (for some of our more adventurous people)! As a business we also pride ourselves on supporting our people in any charity related activity (in addition to our company efforts) for fundraising they are doing. We have seen bake sales, marathons, sleep-outs and everything in between.

Wellbeing and care

Our wellbeing initiative at Puma is named after the age-old Japanese tradition of Kintsugi. This concept focuses on taking broken pots and embellishing them with gold to make something beautiful out of something that wasn’t perfect. Our view on wellbeing is that at the heart of it, each of us starts from a place of imperfection and embracing this is key to working towards self-improvement . Through the Kintsugi programme we focus on four key threads of wellbeing: physical, mental, nutritional and sleep.

Workshops

Working with a number of experts in the field, we offer regular workshops on mental health awareness, better sleep, and the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. These sessions offer us the chance to take a genuine approach to wellbeing, ensuring we are always asking the right questions as part of our company culture, to make sure our people know they are truly supported.

Activities

We like to encourage our people to get involved in activities across the board, from taking part in company step challenges and coming to our monthly social, our annual rounders match, to joining the running club and signing up to the wellbeing app Headspace, which is provided by the business.
